2022 / 2023 Annual Report

A note from our Executive Director

For several years, our organization has been focusing on increasing the DEPTH of programming with the students we serve. One way we’ve done this is by working extensively in key schools, in classrooms throughout those buildings. This model has been really successful, and we are grateful for our partners!

We think more time, more engagement, more hands-on learning, and more art makes a difference in students’ lives. The impact can be shown in academic performance, interest in school, joy in learning, and through developing skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication, and more.

This past year we piloted a new approach, our Intensive Arts Integration Program, in response to our school partners’ interests. An artist spent more than fifty hours in a first grade classroom at Hannah Gibbons-Nottingham School and a third grade classroom at Paul L. Dunbar Arts Enrichment Academy. Complex art projects helped teach concepts in science, math, language arts, and fine arts. An evaluation expert worked with us to determine the success of the program and make changes for the next iteration.

We launched the pilot while we continued our other work: STEAM-focused residencies, social and emotional learning programs, and arts enrichment opportunities outside of school time. In the past year we served more students than ever before, through programs that took place over multiple sessions.

Internally, our team is committed to our own learning around racial equity, fostering relationships with students and educators, and building our skills through ongoing professional development. We’re making an impact every day.

This work happens because of the commitment of our program partners and financial support from the larger community. Thank you for helping us bring learning to life through art!
